Positive Dog Training

Girl with Dog

Lester and Schwana Riddle, the owners of Gray Kennels & Security, have been training dogs since 1979. We believe using positive reinforcement is the most effective way to train dogs.

The staff at Gray Kennels & Security is ready to train for every size, shape, and breed of dog from Chihuahuas to Newfoundlands. We offer several different options and levels for dog training in Tennessee.

All obedience classes include basic vocal commands and hand signals. Leash training includes training your dog to walk on a leash without pulling. Your dog will be happier after the classes knowing what is expected of them.

Training Options:

Basic Obedience and Leash Training

Commands include sit, stay, heel, down, and come, all while on a leash.

Owner/Handler Training

These classes meet every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In these classes, you'll learn how to train your dog, as well as how to maintain their training. You'll play a hands-on role in your dog's training, helping to build an effective bond between the two of you. Appointments for new clients can be made by contacting our office.

Boarded In-Kennel Training

In-kennel training classes are an option preferred by many, especially those who may not have been able to find the time to train but care enough for their dog to desire training. With in-kennel training, we board your dog in our kennel facilities for two weeks, and provide one-on-one training, giving your dog the time required to achieve the desired results. This type of training also provides you with the convenience of a well-trained dog, without the cost of the valuable time required to achieve this goal.

In-Home Training - Instruction at Your Home

One of our trainers will come to your home and guide you through basic obedience, boundary training, crate training, advice on food, and correcting bad habits such as nipping and jumping up. It is crucial that the training received continues throughout your dog's life.

At Gray Kennels & Security, we strive to give your dog the best care possible. Because we know your dog needs room to play and enjoy the outdoors, every pen inside our kennels has a large indoor and outdoor run, with a door between that can be shut in extreme weather. Dog boarding prices start at just $20 a day/per dog (including the day of drop-off and pickup). Contact us today to schedule boarding for your pet. If you're traveling, this is an excellent opportunity for your pet to attend our in-kennel obedience training.

Requirements for Boarding:

  • Up-to-Date Shot Records
    (Rabies, Distemper, & Bordetella)
  • Enough Food for the Duration of the Stay
  • Spaying/Neutering Is Not Required

For the safety of our staff, please inform us when dropping off your dog if it has ever shown aggression towards a person. This will not disqualify you from boarding your dog with us, but it will help keep our staff members and your dog safe.

Please note: After spending a week at the kennels, your dog will probably require a bath. We are more than happy to bathe, dip, brush out, and trim your dog's nails for an additional fee. We do not offer grooming, which is clipper or scissor cuts.

What Does $20/Day for Boarding Get Me?

Your dog will receive a private indoor/outdoor run (heated in the winter) sanitized daily, a private outdoor run or tie-out (whichever you prefer), a mat to sleep on, feeding (medicated according to your specifications; an extra fee may apply, so ask us when scheduling), metal food and water bowls sanitized daily, and lots of love!
